What is the difference between me and you?

Every morning, I awake and gaze at my reflection.

It has become easy to look beyond my features, and concentrate on my complexion.

The contour of my face is vanishing with every look in the mirror.

Slipping through the crack, is my belief that you can one day save me from reality"s horror.

I, regularly battle thoughts that a degree from you is meaningless.

The prejudice you show me, overshadows everything like an eclipse.

Can I do well, when you make me feel alone?

Are you not supposed to be, my home away from home?

These are questions I ponder daily, and now they come to me with no surprise.

I may be light skinned however, I am a student of color which I can not disguise.

When I was in the womb, I was told to seek you and reach for the stars.

I was to young to understand, that the road passed you is filled with bumps, bruises and scars.

I pray that the product of my pain here will justify its means.

Because to me being miserable, is worth achieving my dreams.

I must continue on with the plan to rid my family of the struggle in the concrete jungle.

Armed with a fully loaded determination, I will not let your vines bring me down by the ankle.

Too many of my friends, have become recyclable goods.

As they search for others like you, they find your partner stress and are eventually sent home to the hood.

So I ask, what is the difference between me and you?

Speechless are you, ask society they"re the one who had to label everyone from White, Black to Jew.
