danger © (2007-01-09 11:48) [5]For thaddy: Russian as language now is more difficult than Dutch for russian people I though but russian programmer"s specific lexic especially; that"s kinda slang - there is many of technicians with self-educated english (like I am).
Anyway, sorry for my question if it seems to be inconvenient for you, but when you have become interested in Russian? What you has interested? How you have started to learn Russian? Do you have russian friends living in Amsterdam? Do you speaking though sometimes in Russian? Some time ago I read that you know something about Russian culture and customs, about national dishes ("blinies")?
P.S. sorry for offtopic ;)

matrioshka, balalaika, vodka... Oh, sorry :)

thaddy (2007-01-09 20:14) [7]Actually, I own a balalaika. A proper one, not a tourist trap :) And I can play it!
I started learning Russian for fun in the early 80"s but dropped it due to lack of time.
Picked it up when I discovered KOL :)
Russian is no more difficult than Greek for a Dutchman. (that took me 5 years to master) Given time...
Yes, I do have - a couple of Russian friends, but most of them live in London.
But I am not confident enough to reply in Russian. I understand it though, when spoken slowly, and I can even answer simple questions a simple way. Or ask them...:) Note there is a long standing bond between Holland and Russia (Tsar Peter the Great)
