A Perfect use for KOL?? CGI web server?   Найти похожие ветки

CGI applications are known to have to reload themselves into the memory.. each time someone calls that application. So I wouldn"t want a 1000KB delphi application on my server with today"s still "quite slow bandwidth".. even DSL is still not fast, comparing it to memory and hard drive speeds.

So..since KOL is super fast and small memory footpring.. isn"t CGI the perfect area for KOL to kick in?

Has anybody tried KOL with CGI applications?

I"m going to start building some applications in KOL and see what I can do.. I have some small computers here that I can throw KOL apps on with Apache and Win98, or Win2000. I can hook up my SubDomain"s to an IP with my Enom account super-easily. My IP stays static most of the time, so that is good.

I"ve already installed PHP and Apache on some computers here and got them working just fine, but I"m not happy with PHP and I"d like to try CGI with KOL.

I even use KOL apps on old 133mhz computers and they are SUPER fast..so considering all the old computers I have kicking around.. I think it"s time to turn the computers into servers. If all goes well my ISP will ban me from doing it, and I"ll have to pay for a commercial connection!

Do you guys have DSL or Cable internet connections? Do your IP"s change frequently (there are solutions to that problem though as you probably know).

With ENOM domain names, I can easily park a domain name or a subDomain to my IP address on my computer here with a router.
I just change my router HTTP server. Of course, eventually your ISP will get after you here in my country.. but not just for testing small web servers.

I"m looking into FastCGI to see how that works.. but no delphi information on the internet for it. I want to get FastCGI working with KOL.

Well I have given up trying to find windows hosting with true CGI-bin access. Only Linux offers that, and Linux is available everywhere with proper HTACCESS!

I"ve decided to use PSP with freepascal instead of trying to find the windows hosting that allows exe"s for CGI-BIN.

I hope to take some KOL sources and use them with PSP. Since most of the web stuff is non-GUI we can at least use all the non visual functions in KOL with PSP such as str2Int etc.

PSP is started by a guy in Russia. I don"t know if you guys have heard of it. PSP looks pretty cool for CGI programs. It"s much nicer than Perl or PHP because you can use KOL, pascal, whatever!

Some mods I am working on

Sorry for off topic.. but I plan to use some freepascal KOL stuff in PSP!
